Good list! I've read a few of these. I'm curious to read your upcoming reviews and discover which of these books you will recommend.

I will happily join you in reading some of them, as I have quite a few on my TBR list and need an incentive to get going :).

Stumbled upon this list while trying to figure out whether "The Book Thief" was magical realism or not (I agree with you; it's not... although the narrative style certainly makes it almost-a-fantasy-except-it's-a-realistic-story...)

Anyway. I thought of a couple of books that *I* would say are magical realism that you might like to add to this list - Peter S Beagle's "A Fine and Private Place" and Jostein Gaarder's "Sophie's World". The Beagle book is definitely magical realism as I understand it (real world with a hidden fantastical element - in this case, ghosts - but not strongly enough fantastical to be an urban fantasy). Gaarder's is a little bit more difficult to pin down. I *think* that if you're going to describe it as any particular genre it would be that, but I could be wrong.

Enjoy your reading!
